Privacy policy
MealBuddy is a small app for sharing meals with people you trust, so we try to collect as little as we can. This page explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. "We" and "us" means the team behind MealBuddy. You can reach us any time at contact@mealbuddy.app.
What we collect
- Your sign-in. You sign in with Apple. We get a private Apple user ID and, only if you choose to share them, your name and email. We never see your Apple password.
- Your profile. Your username, display name, the animal or photo you pick as your avatar, and the meal times you set.
- Your meals. Which meals you've logged, and any photos you choose to add. Photos are optional.
- Your buddies. Who you're connected to, pending requests, and anyone you've blocked.
- Reactions and comments that you and your buddies leave on meals.
- Reports you send us about content or people, so we can look into them.
- Subscription status. Whether you have an active subscription. Payments are handled by Apple and we never see your card details.
- A notification token, if you turn notifications on, so we can send you reminders and let you know when a buddy pokes you or shares a meal.
- Anonymous usage counts, like "the app was opened" or "a buddy was added", so we can tell which parts of the app work. These are sent to TelemetryDeck with a scrambled, app-only device ID. They never include your name, photos, comments, or what or whether you ate.
- Error logs if something breaks. These don't contain your meals.
Your location
If you allow it, MealBuddy uses your rough location on your iPhone to show the weather in the penguin's sky, using Apple WeatherKit. Your location is never saved, never sent to our servers, and never linked to your account. You can say no and everything else still works.
Who can see your stuff
Your meals, photos and comments are only visible to you and the buddies you've accepted. There's no public profile or feed. This is enforced by our database itself, so a request can only ever get back what it's allowed to see.
What we never do
- We don't sell your data, to anyone.
- We don't show ads or use advertising or tracking tools.
- We don't use your photos or data to train AI.
- We don't analyse what you eat or turn it into numbers.
Who helps us run MealBuddy
- Supabase stores your account, meals and photos.
- Apple provides sign-in, subscriptions, notifications and weather.
- TelemetryDeck receives the anonymous usage counts described above.
They only get what they need to do that job.
How long we keep it
We keep your information while you have an account. When you delete your account, your profile, meals, photos, comments and buddy connections are deleted straight away.
Your choices
- Delete your account in the app under Settings, Delete Account. This doesn't cancel an App Store subscription, so cancel that in your iPhone's Settings too.
- Remove or block a buddy any time from the Buddies tab.
- Turn off notifications or location in the app or in your iPhone's Settings.
- Ask us for a copy of your data, or to correct it, by emailing contact@mealbuddy.app.
Children
MealBuddy isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
A note on health
MealBuddy is a way to share meals with people you trust. It isn't a medical device or a treatment tool, and it doesn't give health or nutrition advice. If eating feels hard, please talk to a doctor or a health professional.
Changes
If we change this policy we'll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app if it's a big change.
